Happy Birthday to former Boston Bruin Dave Reid. The hard-working left-wing played for the Bruins over the course of two different stints—from 1983 to 1988 and then again from 1991 to 1996.
The birthday boy was selected by Boston in the third round of the 1982 draft. In 1983-84 he got his feet wet at the NHL level, playing in eight regular season games. Reid left the Bruins to earn a more full-time role when he signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent in 1988. In Toronto he established himself as a defensive stalwart, and he satisfied this role when he returned to Boston in 1991.
Reid was a two-time twenty goal scorer for Boston. He played mostly on a checking line, however, at other junctures he played on the team’s top line with Adam Oates and Cam Neely. Reid served valuable minutes on the team’s penalty kill unit as well. During his second stint with the Bruins, he potted fourteen shorthanded goals—and he scored 28 in his NHL career. In 387 career regular season games in Boston, the 6-1 forward scored 89 goals and assisted on 92 others. His plus/minus was +50 during his time with the Bruins.
A 1999 Stanley Cup winner with the Dallas Stars, Dave Reid notched ten playoff points during that postseason run. He added another Stanley Cup to his resume when he played a depth role for the Colorado Avalanche—joining old pal Ray Bourque—in 2001.
Reid played in 968 NHL regular season contests. In addition, the respected veteran played in 118 career playoff games, producing at a 9-26-35 clip. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion. Currently, he is an analyst for the NHL Network and contributes to TNT’s hockey coverage. Happy 60th birthday, Dave!
