Boston Bruins forward prospect Jonathan Morello has made the strategic decision to de-commit from Clarkson University and instead pledge his future to Boston University starting in the 2025-26 season. The 18-year-old Ontario, Canada native was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 National Hockey League Entry Draft held at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada. Morello is a 6′-3″ 192-pound centerman who will play the upcoming 2024-25 campaign in the United States Hockey League with the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Jonathan has excelled in various junior leagues, such as the Ontario Junior Hockey League, earning accolades and recognition for his skill on the ice. In the last two seasons with the OJHL’s St. Michaels Buzzers, Morello posted 41-56-97 numbers in 101 games. His best season was last year with the Buzzers when he contributed 25-32-57 numbers in 50 games before being selected by the B’s. His two-way playing style and ability to perform under pressure have positioned him as a potential asset for the Bruins, making his educational and career decisions all the more significant.

Initially committed to Clarkson University in November of 2022, Morello had been poised to join their esteemed hockey program. However, after careful consideration, he decided to alter his course, bringing his talents to the powerful Hockey East conference. Several factors played a role in this decision, including personal development opportunities and alignment with his long-term career goals.

Boston University is a storied hockey program known for its rigorous training and history of producing NHL-caliber talent. Additionally, the university’s strong connections within the hockey community and reputation for fostering player development might’ve been significant influences. Moreover, the proximity to the Bruins’ organization might offer Morello unique opportunities to integrate more closely with the team’s culture and operations.

This transition to Boston University is anticipated to impact Morello’s career trajectory profoundly. The resources and mentorship available at BU are expected to refine his skills and enhance his preparedness for a professional career. The competitive environment and exposure to high-level play will likely aid in Morello’s development, offering him an edge in pursuing a future in the NHL.

Jonathan Morello’s decision to switch his collegiate commitment is pivotal in his burgeoning career. By opting for Boston University, he aligns himself with a program that promises athletic growth and personal and professional development. As he embarks on this new chapter, the move underscores his dedication to both his education and his ambition to excel in hockey. The coming years at Boston University are expected to be transformative, setting Morello on a developmental path that could lead to success both in college hockey and his lifetime goal of reaching the NHL.
