The Boston Bruins began the 2024 Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, New York, with a six-to-three loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Markus Vidicek, John Farinacci, and Brett Harrison scored goals for the Bruins. Ryan Bischel was in the net for Boston.

Several players, including forward Riley Duran, stood out for the B’s despite the loss. Although his name was not on the scoresheet, Duran’s effort, specifically on the forecheck, was noticeable throughout the contest. Although not credited with an assist, he drove the net hard in the first period, resulting in a goal for Brett Harrison.

Another player who stood out was John Farinacci. The Red Bank, New Jersey native scored the Bruins’ second goal on a breakaway with a top-shelf finish. Farinacci showcased his skills throughout the game with good positioning and hockey sense. Although only 5’11”, he had a couple of hits that knocked over Penguins players.

Jaxon Nelson also showed potential in his first Prospects Challenge game. The 6’4″, 220-pound forward centered the Bruins’ second line and used his size to his advantage, showing a willingness to engage physically with opponents.

Last but certainly not least, Brett Harrison made his presence known with a goal and an assist. The 2021 third-round pick drew both Penguins defenders towards him before dishing a textbook backhand pass to Farinacci on the Bruins’ second goal. He was then well-positioned to finish a Riley Duran rush and had several shots on goal.

The Bruins will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The roster and team schedule can be found here.
