It was announced Friday that longtime 98.5 Sports Hub personality Ryan Johnston will be the new radio play-by-play announcer for the Boston Bruins. Johnston will stay with the Sports Hub and replace Judd Sirott, who will be taking over for Jack Edwards on the NESN TV broadcast.

The man, often referred to by his initials “RJ,” will be the 10th radio announcer in Bruins history. Johnston appeared on 98.5’s morning show, Toucher and Hardy, to make the announcement.

“This is truly my dream job, and I could not be more excited for this opportunity.” Johnston has called Bruins games in the past, including the infamous 8-6 game against the Montreal Canadiens in February of 2011. That was the game where Tim Thomas dropped the gloves with Carey Price.

Johnston is a Syracuse University graduate with a long resume in sports media. Many Bruins fans have heard him on the radio on Saturday mornings, hosting the Sports Hub Hockey show. He is highly knowledgeable about the game of hockey and brings energy and personality to the booth. This is a great hire, and Bruins fans will undoubtedly enjoy him in this well-earned position.
