Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney told everyone last Monday that training camp wasn’t over, and he made good on his promise with the organization’s most recent announcement. At 10:32 AM this morning, the team announced that Fabian Lysell has been recalled from Providence.

Fans were downtrodden after Lysell was announced as part of the initial wave of cuts at Bruins training camp. But when pressed about the future of his top prospect, Don Sweeney made sure to keep the door open for any possibility. “Again, I referenced the camp is not over,” said Sweeney during Monday’s media day. “In all likelihood we’re going to evaluate after (Tuesday) night’s game, what the lineup looks like for Thursday and there will be several players that will come back (from Providence) and play.”

It’s become clear that Fabian Lysell’s main competition for the spot on Charlie Coyle’s right wing is second-year Bruins Morgan Geekie. Geekie put up career highs across the board in his first season with Boston (17-22-39 in 76 games), and he already has the support of Captain Brad Marchand.

The Bruins have two preseason games left and there’s no guarantee Lysell will be given time in both games. We’re officially in ‘now or never’ territory for the speedy winger, and tonight’s game in Quebec City could be his last chance to prove why he deserves a spot on the opening night roster.
