Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced on Thursday that forward Tyler Johnson has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination. Johnson appeared in nine games for the Bruins this season, recording two assists.
After attending training camp on a professional tryout (PTO), Johnson was signed to a one-year contract on Nov. 4, 2024. Johnson was primarily slotted on the third line in his nine games with the Bruins.
The Spokane, Washington native has appeared in 747 career games across 13 seasons, spending time in Chicago and Tampa Bay before signing with Boston. In his career, Johnson has recorded 193 goals and 240 assists. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound forward is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion, winning with the Lightning in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
After going undrafted, Johnson signed his Entry-Level Contract (ELC) with the Lightning in 2011. In 589 games with the Lightning, Johnson recorded 161 goals and 200 assists for 361 points.
Johnson was dealt to Chicago on July 21st, 2021, after nine seasons in Tampa Bay. In 149 games with the Blackhawks, Johnson notched 32 goals and 38 assists over three seasons before departing for Boston.
This move comes days after the Bruins claimed forward Oliver Wahlstrom off waivers from the New York Islanders. Wahlstrom’s addition, along with the Bruins carrying 14 forwards on their active roster, signals the end of Johnson’s time in Boston.
