The Providence Bruins have had a fantastic season, surpassing expectations as they strive to win the Calder Cup. Two players have stood out recently: goaltender Michael DiPietro and defenseman Michael Callahan. Both have been selected for the American Hockey League All-Star Team, representing the Atlantic Division.

Since Jordan Oesterle’s call-up early in the season, there have been concerns about who would lead the defense. Michael Callahan has stepped up and proven to be the backbone of this defensive core. So far this season with Providence, he has one goal and five assists, totaling six points in 33 games. His remarkable leadership on and off the ice earned him the title of assistant captain. The former Providence College Friar has undoubtedly made his case to be a part of this all-star team.

This season, Michael DiPietro’s outstanding performance has made this selection unsurprising. Although Providence has experienced some ups and downs, DiPietro has been consistently strong. The former Vancouver Canuck ranks among the top five goalies in the AHL this season. In 18 starts, he has achieved a .925 save percentage and a 2.04 goals-against average. Despite the sluggish start for the P-Bruins, the Windsor, Ontario native holds an 11-4-4 record this season. Without a doubt, Michael DiPietro has been the most valuable player on this team, and I’m glad to see him receive the recognition he deserves.

Congratulations to Callahan and DiPietro on making the Atlantic Division All-Star team. I know they will make the fans and the team proud. The All-Star game festivities will take place on February 2-3. The event will finish with the annual three-on-three all-star game on February 3 at 9 pm EST on Flo Hockey.
