After a disappointing series against the back-to-back champion Hershey Bears in Chocolate Town, in which the Providence Bruins lost both games, the team is preparing to face two of its divisional rivals. On Friday, the P-Bruins will take on the Bridgeport Islanders at the Amica Mutual Pavilion, and then on Saturday, they will head to Springfield to face the Thunderbirds.

With the announcement of the 2025 American Hockey League All-Star roster, the Baby Bruins can proudly say they have two All-Star-caliber goalies: Brandon Bussi, who was named to the team in 2023, and Michael DiPietro, who made the cut in 2025. Both netminders must be at their best if Providence hopes to secure its first series win of the new year.

This Friday promises to be an intriguing matchup as the Bruins take on the Islanders. Although Providence had a rough weekend, they have been an impressive team this season. In contrast, the Islanders have struggled, winning only five of their last 20 games and maintaining a dismal 0-7-0 record against the Bruins this season.

In their most recent matchup against Bridgeport, the Bruins secured a 4-1 victory. Fabian Lysell was a standout performer, contributing one goal and two assists. Riley Tufte also had an impressive game, scoring two goals and adding one assist. Meanwhile, Michael DiPietro delivered an outstanding performance in goal, saving 31 of 32 shots from the Islanders.

The Baby B’s will travel to Springfield on Saturday to face the Thunderbirds. Despite the Thunderbirds’ recent struggles, they have succeeded against the Bruins this season, boasting a 2-1-0 record against Providence. The T-Birds enter this matchup on a three-game losing streak, allowing at least five goals in each game. In their last encounter, the Thunderbirds managed to win 3-2. Matthew Poitras and Vinni Lettieri had multi-point performances in that game, but unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for their team to secure the victory.

The storylines heading into this weekend are essential. As the Boston Bruins continue to struggle, each game feels like an audition, and it is only a matter of time before the team is compelled to call up some of its promising young players. Eyes will be on Georgii Merkulov, Fabian Lysell, and Matthew Poitras to see if they can add some offensive spark to the major league team.

The other storyline involves Michael Callahan and Michael DiPietro making the All-Star team. Both players have been exceptional this season, and they will need to maintain their high-performance levels if the team is to reach its full potential.

Catch the Providence Bruins this Friday as they take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. The Bruins aim to extend their eight-game winning streak against the Sound Tigers. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

Following this game, the team will have a quick turnaround as they head to Springfield to face the Springfield Thunderbirds. The Bruins will seek to even up the season series at two games each. The puck drop for that game is also set for 7:05 PM.
