The 2025 American Hockey League All-Star Classic kicks off next week at the Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs, California, home of the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the minor-pro affiliate of the National Hockey League Seattle Kraken. The two-day event starts on Sunday night, February 2nd, with an All-Star Skills Competition and an All-Star Challenge the next night on Monday night, February 3rd.

Providence Bruins defenseman Michael Callahan and Goaltender Michael DiPietro were the league’s selections for their outstanding play in this 2024-25 regular season. This is the first time Callahan and DiPietro have been selected for this All-Star honor, but as the festivities get closer, it seems more than likely that only one will actually make their way out west.

Michael Callahan is still on the Boston Bruins roster and will most likely remain until B’s defenseman Hampus Lindholm returns to the lineup after recovering from a shattered knee cap. In 35 games this year as a second-year assistant captain, Callahan posted 1-5-6 numbers in his third year of AHL hockey, and in four contests with Boston with his recall, he has yet to register his first career NHL point. During the 2024-24 regular season campaign, posting 4-13-17 numbers in 70 games played.

Michael DiPietro is playing his best hockey to date as an AHL netminder for the Providence Bruins this season and posting career numbers in this his second full season with the NHL Bruins affiliate. Much like his Providence tandem partner Brandon Bussi, DiPietro worked his way up the Bruins organization from the ECHL Maine Mariners and never looked back.

Last season, DiPietro appeared in 30 games for Providence, posting a decent 18-9-2 splitting duties with Bussi along with a 2.51 goals-against-average and .918 save percentage. This season, the upcoming 2025 AHL All-Star has appeared in 24 games with an impressive 15-5-5 record and a 1.91 GAA and .932 Save%. The former third-round draft selection of the Vancouver Canucks is in second place in the league in GAA, fourth in overall wins, third in Save%, and second in shutouts.

The Providence Bruins are in Cleveland, Ohio, for two road games this weekend against the Cleveland Monsters at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. The first of the back-to-back contests kicks off tomorrow night with a puck drop at 7pm. The second leg of this two-game road trip is on Saturday night again, with a start time of 7pm.
