The Boston Bruins have placed forward Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers, Eliotte Friedman announced on X today. After being claimed by Boston on December 14th, Wahlstrom appeared in 16 games for the team. This move comes ahead of what would have been the 24-year-old’s first matchup against his former team, the New York Islanders.

In 16 games for the Bruins, playing primarily bottom-six minutes, Wahlstrom recorded one goal and one assist and averaged 10:30 of ice time. The former Islander made his Bruins debut on December 19th in the team’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers. The Portland, Maine native was placed on waivers by the Islanders on December 13th after spending parts of seven seasons with the organization. In 220 career games with the Islanders, Wahlstrom recorded 36 goals and 35 assists for 71 points. Wahlstrom was selected 11th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the organization.

Before being drafted by the Islanders, Wahlstrom was a member of the United States National Development Program. After his time with the program, Wahlstrom spent one season at Boston College, scoring eight goals and notched 11 assists in 36 games. The 6’2”, 205-pound forward is notable in New England hockey history for his lacrosse-style goal as a nine-year-old while participating in the TDBank Mini 1 on 1 tournament.
