With two days until July 1st, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney has been busy. Today, the Bruins announced that they had agreed to terms with forward Marat Khusnutdinov and defenseman Michael Callahan on contract extensions. Khusnutdinov signed a two-year contract with an average annual value of $925,000, while Callahan signed a one-year, two-way contract at the league minimum, $775,000.
A native of Moscow, Russia, Khusnutdinov was dealt to the Bruins from the Minnesota Wild at the trade deadline along with Jakub Lauko and a sixth-round pick in the 2026 National Hockey League Entry Draft in exchange for Justin Brazeau. Khusnutdinov appeared in 18 games with the B’s, scoring three goals. He was drafted 37th overall by the Wild in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, and was a pending restricted free agent before signing.
Callahan made his NHL debut this season with the Bruins. The Franklin, Massachusetts, native appeared in 17 games with the big club and scored his first NHL goal against the New Jersey Devils in April. He also played in 45 American Hockey League games with the Providence Bruins, where he registered nine points. Originally selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, he came to Boston via trade in 2022, in exchange for a 7th-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Callahan was a pending Group 6 unrestricted free agent.
