Boston Bruins prospect Cole Spicer has found a new home for the 2025-26 NCAA Hockey season, as Western Michigan University announced his commitment on Tuesday afternoon.

Spicer, a fourth-round draft pick (117th overall) from the 2022 NHL Draft, was initially committed to Arizona State for the upcoming year, but had been looking for a new team after the Sun Devils parted ways with him at the end of July. Now, rather than playing in Tempe, he’ll be heading to Kalamazoo to join the reigning National Champions.

Spicer is returning to the NCHC, where he began his collegiate career with Minnesota-Duluth in the 2022-23 season. He recorded 3-3-6 in 32 games as a freshman for the Bulldogs, and started his sophomore season with 5-4-9 in 17 games, before being ruled academically ineligible halfway through the year. Spicer had been dealing with the lingering effects of concussions, and elected to step away from hockey for a period of time, before joining the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL for the 2024-25 season.

He committed to Arizona State back in April, following a 9-26-35 campaign in 37 games with Dubuque, but was not included in the Bruins Development Camp roster in June. Shortly after the announcement that ASU was parting ways with Spicer, Ty Anderson noted that he had been dealing with “significant injury issues”.

At Western Michigan, he’ll be joining a Bronco lineup that is replacing nine forwards from their National Championship team, including Alex Bump and Tim Washe, who both signed pro contracts after defeating Boston University in April.
