The Boston Bruins have announced roster transactions ahead of today’s matinee against the New York Rangers. Forward Casey Mittelstadt has been added to the active roster, forward Georgii Merkulov has been recalled from the Providence Bruins, forward Matej Blumel has been placed on long-term injured reserve, defenseman Michael Callahan has been assigned to the Providence Bruins.

Mittelstadt has been sidelined since November 6th, last playing against the Ottawa Senators, missing a total of nine games in that stretch. In his 15 games with Boston this season, he’s recorded 4-5-9 and a plus/minus of 0. He’s been a bit up and down, but overall effective for the Bruins, mostly playing alongside Pavel Zacha and Viktor Arvidsson, shifting between center and wing.

Merkulov has played the entire season in Providence so far, appearing in 17 games, and posting 6-8-14 in that time. He played just six games in the 2024-25 season, so this is a good opportunity for the 25 year old to get a possible extended look and a chance to make an impact.

Matej Blumel had a strong preseason, but was ultimately assigned to Providence at the start of the 2025-26 season. He played 13 games in the American Hockey League, posting 2-11-13, before earning a call-up to the National Hockey League. In his four game stretch with Boston, he’s been quiet, not recording any points, and being on the ice for three goals against. He exited the last game with a lower-body injury.

Michael Callahan was recalled from Providence due to the defense corps being hit with the injury bug. In his three games in Boston this season, he hasn’t recorded any points and he’s a plus/minus of -2. He finished off the 2024-25 season in Boston last season, and proved to be a serviceable seventh defensemen. He ultimately had his job taken by Jordan Harris to start the 2025-26 season, but since losing both him and McAvoy to injury, Callahan had been recalled.
