With injuries to defensemen Henri Jokiharju, Michael Callahan, Jonathan Aspirot, and Jordan Harris, the Boston Bruins have claimed Vladislav Kolyachonok off waivers from the Dallas Stars. Kolyachonok had a goal and two assists in 11 games this season with Dallas, as well as three assists in 10 games with AHL Texas.

A native of Minsk, Belarus, Kolyachonok has played in 85 National Hockey League games to date, recording five goals and 12 assists. He was drafted 52nd overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers, playing parts of two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Flint Firebirds and London Knights. Since signing his first NHL contract in 2019 with Florida, Kolyachonok has been a member of the Arizona/Utah, Pittsburgh, and Dallas organizations.

Where exactly Kolyachonok will fit in the Bruins’ lineup remains to be seen. Boston was down to six healthy NHL defensemen after the injury to Aspirot on Thursday Night. Still, all four of their defensemen who are currently injured have been skating, suggesting a return for some or all of them might come sooner rather than later. Whether or not the Belarusian defender is just a stopgap for the eventual returns of those players remains to be seen. All four of Harris, Callahan, Aspirot, and Jokiharju would require waivers to be assigned to the American Hockey League.
