The Boston Bruins have announced that they’ve traded forward Jeffrey Viel to the Anaheim Ducks for a 2026 fourth-round draft pick, which will be the earlier of Anaheim’s two fourth-round picks, originally coming from Detroit and Philadelphia.

Additionally, they’ve announced that right-hand defenseman Billy Sweezey has been recalled from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis. The call-up is due to Andrew Peeke going down with a lower-body injury during last night’s game against the Seattle Kraken.

Viel, 28, has played a total of 10 games with the Boston Bruins so far this season, and was in his second season with the Black and Gold. He played just five games last season, and his total of 15 games in Boston, he didn’t register a point. In those 15 games, he was also a plus/minus of -2.

Billy Sweezey, 29, signed with the Boston Bruins in the summer of 2024. He’s yet to play a game in Boston, and has a total of nine National Hockey League games played — all with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He registered a point in those nine games and a plus/minus of -3 in the 2022-23 season.

In Sweezey’s 34 games with the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins, the Hanson, Massachusetts native has recorded a goal and 10 assists (1-10-11), and a plus/minus of +22.
