Fraser Minten joined the Boston Bruins on March 7, 2025, having been traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs – alongside a 2026 first-round draft pick and a 2025 fourth-round draft pick – for defenseman Brandon Carlo. Just over a year on, Minten is now a centre on the Bruins’ first line with David Pastrnak and Marat Khusnutdinov.
The 6′-2″, 205-pound Vancouver, Canada, native spent two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization after being selected 38th overall in the 2022 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He played 18 games for Toronto and recorded four points (2G, 2A). Since joining the Bruins, Fraser has exceeded expectations to rack up 32 points (17G, 15A), solidifying his place on the roster and has been a mainstay since training camp back in September 2025.
Eight of these goals were scored in January, earning Minten the National Hockey League’s Rookie of the Month when combined with his six assists that tied him for the lead in points at the time (14). These efforts were carried out over the course of 14 games. Following this accomplishment, the rookie has since been promoted to the Bruins’ top line, sharing the ice with David Pastrnak and Marat Khusnutdinov.
On Saturday, March 14, Minten further added to his list of achievements as he scored his first shootout goal and third game-winning goal to claim victory against the Washington Capitals. His triumph came after nine rounds, drawing a roar from the tense crowd as the eighteenth shot finally found its way into the net. This success also ended the Bruins’ seven-game skid on the road.
Trust in the rookie’s skill and ability has proved paramount to his growth, allowing him to develop confidence and perform consistently at a higher level – particularly during high-pressure moments. The refinement of his game has been critical in elevating his play, and will continue to remain crucial as the Bruins seek to secure a place in the playoffs. The team currently holds onto a Wild Card spot with 86 points.
Coach Marco Sturm has sung high praises for the rookie throughout the course of the season, claiming that the 21-year-old thinks about and sees the game in a way that sets him apart from his peers. Most recently, Sturm said to the media, “There’s a lot of things you can’t teach, and that’s what he [Minten] has, and that’s why he’s ahead of some other guys. That’s just the way it is. […] A lot of things that are easy for him, even the teaching part, he gets it right away. Other guys don’t. So that’s something you can’t teach. He just has it. He’s lucky enough to be born with it.”
While Minten has remained modest, publicly expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to the team, he remains dedicated to growing his talent. When speaking about sharing a line with Pastrnak, the young centre spoke about his gratefulness to learn from “one of the best players in the world” who “always [has] little details, little plays that he’s kinda coaching me through, walking me through on the bench.”
Fraser Minten will next take to the ice on Tuesday, March 24, to face off against his old team. The Boston Bruins will battle the Toronto Maple Leafs for the third and final time this season, with puck drop set for 7:00 PM (EDT).
