As initially reported by Colby Cohen and later confirmed by the team on X, Boston Bruins prospect Elliott Groenewold will be returning to Quinnipiac University for his junior season with the Bobcats. The defenseman concluded his sophomore season on Saturday following a regional final loss to North Dakota in the NCAA Tournament.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft, the 6’2″, 208lb Bellows Falls, Vermont native had a breakout sophomore campaign on the blueline in Hamden. Groenewold recorded 7-13-20 in 40 games while averaging over 20 minutes per game as the youngest defenseman on the roster, and led the nation with a +39 differential. He was integral to the Bobcats’ sixth consecutive Cleary Cup title as ECAC Regular Season Champions, and was recognized as the ECAC Defensive Defenseman of the Year.

Looking ahead to next fall, Groenewold projects to be a core piece of Head Coach Rand Pecknold’s lineup. Following the departures of Charlie Leddy and Will Gilson, Groenewold will be the most experienced defenseman on the team with 78 career games played. He and his partner, Braden Blace, will be leaned on for significant minutes as the only returning defensive pair as the Bobcats seek to defend their Cleary Cup title once again and compete for a seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
