The Boston Fleet announced that they have re-signed and protected Susanna Tapani as part of the Expansion Roster Distribution Process. Tapani inked a two-year deal and is with the club through the 2027-28 season

The 33-year-old has been with Boston since a trade during the inaugural season. She has finished in the top five for team scoring in each of her three seasons.

It was announced by the Professional Women’s Hockey League that Tapani has been offered a Foundational Player Offer for one of the four expansion teams during Phase Two, yet she had rejected it. The six players who rejected the FPO contracts are required to sign with any team during Phase Three of the Expansion Roster Distribution Process.

During Phase Two, the Fleet only lost Alina Müller. It wasn’t a positive by any means however, as Müller is one of the most offensively talented players in the league. If they had also lost Tapani, there would have been a lot more concern for the team.

Protecting the Finnish center was a priority of Fleet General Manager Danielle Marmer. With a top defensive pair of Megan Keller and Haley Winn locked in, as well as Aerin Frankel in net, forward depth is crucial in the next few months.

For Phase Three, the Fleet can sign and protect an additional three players. With Tapani locked in, they have two more slots available. The 2026 PWHL Entry Draft is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17th, which will provide another chance for the Fleet front office to deepen the roster.
