The Boston Bruins announced that they have traded goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Kalle Vaisanen and a 2028 fourth-round draft pick just under an hour after free agency opened up.
Korpisalo, 32, played two seasons in Boston after being traded from the Ottawa Senators in the 2024 offseason. Both the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons for Korpisalo were similar in numbers, as he recorded a 2.90 goals against average in 2024-25 and a 3.15 goals against average in 2025-26.
His save percentage was almost identical, as he recorded a .893 save percentage in 2024-25 and a .894 save percentage in 2025-26. He played 27 games in 2024-25 and recorded 11 wins. In 2025-26, he played in 31 games and recorded 14 wins.
Kalle Vaisanen is a 23-year-old right-handed left-winger that was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 draft. This past season, he played 51 games with the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack, where he recorded 3-1-4 and a plus/minus of -12. He stands tall at 6’5″ and weighs 200 pounds.
