The Boston Bruins announced today a series of roster moves as the club continues preparations for the upcoming National Hockey League (NHL) season. Forwards Lukas Reichel and Alex Steeves were placed on waivers with the intention of assigning them to the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Providence Bruins, the team’s top minor-league affiliate. Additionally, defenseman Ty Gallagher has been reassigned to Providence to join the AHL roster and participate in training camp under first-year head coach Trent Whitfield, alongside assistants Chris Bourque and Ryan Ward.
Reichel, 24, saw limited NHL action last season, appearing in ten games for Boston and collecting a goal and two assists. He also made his mark in the AHL, posting one goal and five assists for six points over four games with Providence. Steeves, 26, contributed three goals and five assists in nine games with Providence before earning a call-up to the Bruins, where he went on to play 43 NHL games and record nine goals and seven assists.
Ty Gallagher, 23, a seventh-round pick by Boston in the 2021 NHL Draft, has yet to make his NHL debut. The former Boston University and Colorado College defenseman has become a regular presence on Providence’s blue line, tallying eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 54 career AHL games.
These moves come as the Bruins work to become salary cap compliant ahead of the NHL’s opening night roster deadline. With training camp in full swing, more roster decisions are expected in the coming days, possibly involving additional players moving through waivers or being assigned to the AHL for further development. The team aims to maintain a competitive and ready pool of talent in Providence, ensuring depth and flexibility as the regular season approaches.
