Bruins prospect Will Zellers was named the NCHC Player of the Week on Tuesday after a six-point weekend in North Dakota’s sweep of Bemidji State. Zellers contributed to six of the Fighting Hawks’ seven goals, scoring twice on the power play and recording four assists, setting up all three goals on Friday night.
Zellers’ dominant performance put him in good company with previous star forwards to come through Grand Forks. He became the first North Dakota player since Brock Boeser in 2016 to record six points in an opening weekend, and the second in program history to open a season with back-to-back three-point games, after Zach Parise in 2002.
This is the first time that Zellers has earned NCHC Player of the Week honors. As a freshman, he was named NCHC Rookie of the Month in November and later made the All-Rookie Team at season’s end.
