With great anticipation and speculation from a rabid Boston Bruins fan base that’s eager to see the next top prospect join the National Hockey League club, the waiting is over as the B’s have “officially” announced that the team had signed defenseman Charlie McAvoy to a three-year entry-level contract.

The 6′-1″ 212-pound Long Beach, New York native was the first round selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and has been playing his NCAA hockey at Boston University for the past two seasons. In 75 career collegiate hockey games in Hockey East, the highly touted blueliner posted 8-43-51 numbers with BU and left at the end of his sophomore season to go pro after his Terrier team failed to continue in the NCAA National Tournament.

The 19-year-old signed an Amateur Try-Out agreement on March 29th to join the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League which is the B’s top minor-pro affiliate. In four games with the Baby B’s the 14th overall pick played well in his first action of professional hockey and really should what all the hype was all about when the Bruins acquired him in the draft festivities from Buffalo, New York. In his limited time in the AHL he contributed two assists, had five shots on goal, and was a plus three.
