Bruins Sign Purcell To Professional Try-out Agreement

The Boston Bruins have invited veteran forward Teddy Purcell to join the festivities at the B’s National Hockey League training camp which started today with off-ice physicals and will be on the ice for the following three days of the camp duration. The 32-year-old Purcell spent a majority of last season with the Los Angels Kings organization playing 11 games in the National Hockey League, and 38 games with the Kings top minor-pro affiliate the Ontario Reign posting 10-28-38 numbers.

The 6′-2″ 198-pound right winger left the University of Maine team after posting 43 points in 40 games for the bright lights of professional hockey as an undrafted forward signing with the LA Kings back in 2007-08. He would go on to have a decent NHL career making stops in Los Angeles, Tamp Bay, Edmonton, Florida, and back with the Kings as mentioned last season posting two points in 11 games.

One of the biggest problems with Purcell’s game in the later years of his hockey career is consistency and with the speed of the game increasingly getting faster, I’m not sure he’ll be a candidate for a roster spot but will push some developing youth in the training camp process. He can also be in Bruins camp to audition for roster availability in Providence, much like the road veteran forward Peter Mueller did last year.
