On Saturday night November 11,2017, Boston Bruins prospect, Jakub Zboril took what looked like a hit to the head at the 14:46 mark of the first period. Zboril did not return to the game after leaving the ice for the locker room during the American Hockey League contest between the visiting Providence Bruins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The egregious hit from the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Place was initially called a roughing penalty by either AHL Referee Andrew Howard or Ben O’Quinn who were working that night and made the call on Penguins defenseman Andrey Pedan. WBS Pens Pedan got two minutes for the roughing call but also a five-minute fighting major when Baby B’s forward Kenny Agostino came in to stick up for his fellow teammate. After the game and AHL disciplinary review, the league came to the conclusion that the hit was, in fact, a charge to the Baby B’s Zboril as seen in tweets below from the Providence Journal Hockey Writer Mark Divver and AHL Communications Twitter account.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman Andrey Pedan has been suspended for three (3) games as a consequence of a charging incident in a game vs. Providence on Nov. 11.

Zboril, a 6′-0″ 201-pound Brno, Czech Republic native and the first of three consecutive 2015 first round selections from the National Hockey Leagues Entry Draft from Sunrise, Florida. Jakub has only missed one game since leaving the ice on Saturday night, but once again Providence Journal’s B’s Writer Mark Divver reported an update earlier today with news of the talented blueliner in his tweet below.

Through 12 games in his first professional season in the AHL Zboril has yet to earn a single point but that doesn’t mean he’s not performing at his best away from the puck. As a decent sized defenseman, he can dish bone-crunching hits and uses his frame well around the crease when the opponent is trying to wreak havoc in front of his goaltender. He skates very well and has the IQ and vision to smartly transition the puck out of the zone while keeping an eye safely with a stretch pass.

While playing his junior hockey with the Quebec Major Junio Hockey Leagues Saint John Sea Dogs, he contributed 28-64-94 numbers in 144 career games. Don’t let his offensive numbers fool you from his junior days to his first year of pro hockey as he has the attributes to be a solid NHL’er in the near future.

The 7-4-2-0 Providence Bruins are back in action this weekend starting on Friday night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island against the 6-7-0-2 Hershey Bears at 7:00 and again on Sunday afternoon against the same Bears team in Providence at 1:05.
