As their 3rd pick of the day, the Bruins have drafted Mason Langenbrunner in the 5th round, 151st overall. After choosing to draft a couple of Americans headed to the NCAA with their first two picks, Don Sweeney and co. elected to go the same route with Langenbrunner. The right shot defenseman has spent his last few years playing high-school hockey in Minnesota and has committed to Harvard for the 2021 campaign. Oh, and If the name sounds familiar, it should. Mason is the son of former player and now Director of Player Development for the Bruins, Jamie Langenbrunner.

At 6’2, the defenseman has some height and at 165 pounds, getting stronger will certainly play a big part of his development. Mason was one of the top defenseman inside of Minnesota High School Hockey, putting up five goals and 19 assists while playing for the always competitive Eden Prairie High.

The righty dman sees the ice well and can lead a really solid breakout. He’s able to generate offense from the back end with his puck-moving ability but can be prone to make a mistake or two, as all high-schoolers tend to do. He’s got a nice shot from the point and could totally project to be a guy that can work a powerplay. He’s certainly a few years away from reaching the big leagues, but let’s hope he ends up having as much success as his father.
