The Shining Star Showcase is a weekly series taking time to review the Providence Bruins based on their performance after each weekend set of games.
With three games into the season under their belts, the Providence Bruins have exercised an acclimation to the season, looking for the right mix of ingredients for a winning roster. They made a variety of line combinations on even strength and special teams. We have seen two goaltenders between the pipes. The result is a 2-1 record. After their second win against Bridgeport, here are some shining stars that made the Shining Star Showcase.
Shining Star: Jeremy Swayman
Providence Bruins Goaltender Jeremy Swayman makes an appearance in both showcases so far this season. The netminder stopped seventeen out of twenty shots, and the turning point was late in the second period after giving up his third goal. Swayman ensured it would be their last goal allowing the third period to be dominated by his defense. This self-declaration of prevention of pucks in the net sparked the offense to run off three unanswered goals to win the contest. After two winning starts, Swayman has stopped 43 of 47 shots sporting a .915 save percentage.
Shining Star: Jakub Lauko
Jakub Lauko also earned his second showcase appearance in a row with his performance in the win against Bridgeport. The left-winger found himself involved in three of the five goals scored, netting one and helping on a pair of lamplighters. Lauko had a four-point night with a plus-minus of +2 on four shots on goal. His three scoresheet tallies happened on all three levels of ice play. His first point was an assist while on the power play. Lauko notched his third point on an even-strength goal. The final point for Lauko came with his help while down a man via an empty netter. He has shown consistent above normal effort and finds his way on the scoresheet and the showcase.
Shining Star: Cameron Hughes
Cameron Hughes makes his debut to the Shining Star Showcase in grand style. In the win for Providence against Bridgeport, Hughes notched the game-winning goal only two minutes into the third period. When the Bruins tied the game only twenty-nine seconds into the third period, the team was clearly energized. They were able to draw a penalty within the first minute after the goal. This was indicative that Bridgeport was on their heels and sensing a momentum shift. Hughes also sensed that, and with Paul Carey and Jack Ahcan, he seized the opportunity and lit the lamp, giving the Bruins a 4-3 lead. A lead that would not be surrendered again.
Who Will Shine Next?
As we await the results of the upcoming game on February 19th, 2021, against Bridgeport, who do you think will shine? Will we have any repeat stars, or will there be a new trio that comes to the forefront? Come back to find out.
