About The Podcast
The Lindroth boys recently launched a brand new podcast show called “The Lindroth Hockey Podcast,” featuring co-hosts, father and son duo, Andrew and James Lindroth. This show is apart of the Black N’ Gold Podcast Network.
We decided to combine our old and new school hockey mindsets to create fascinating discussions about current National Hockey League (NHL) news, news revolving around the Boston Bruins organization, and ‘old-time’ hockey memories. We are also based in Tulsa, OK, and regularly attend the Anaheim Ducks’ (NHL) East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) minor-pro affiliate, the Tulsa Oilers, and will be discussing news related to the Tulsa organization.
The podcast show releases a new episode every week and occasionally has special guests ranging from other hockey writers, players, coaches, other additional professional hockey staff, and more!
Darren Banks – Boston Bruin Tough Guy
This week for episode 19 we had former Boston Bruin forward, Darren Banks, join us on the show to discuss his former hockey experiences growing up and professionally, fighting in hockey, ‘Hockey in the Hood Tournament’, Viva Las Vegas & more!
Darren began his collegiate career in 1986 at Brock University and played for the Brock Badgers for three years while studying sociology during that time. After graduating from college he turned pro and began his journey through the ECHL and after his first successful season signed a contract with the Calgary Flames. He was assigned to the Flames’ minor-pro affiliate, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles (IHL) from 1990-1992, registering 14 goals and 26 points with an astounding 589 PIM in 111 games.
After his contract expired with the Flames, Darren went on to test the free-agent market and was quickly contacted by Mike Milbury of the Boston Bruins, where he would end up signing a several-year deal. The forward appeared with the team over the course of two seasons from 1992-1994, while also playing for the Providence Bruins during that time. He suited up for the Bruins in 20 contests, registering two goals and four points with 75 PIM.
He continued to play throughout various minor leagues as well as overseas and did so until he officially retired from the hockey world in 2005. He was a hardnosed player who gave it all on the ice every single shift, and certainly left impressions with many Bruins fans for years to come.
Andrew L.- “Who was the toughest guy just off the top of your head that you had to fight?”
Darren Banks- “The toughest guy was probably Tony Twist. He threw the absolute hardest punches that I’ve ever seen and try to throw it was like he was trying to punch through the back of your head and he and I fought three times, one time in back-to-back games and it was literally like a battle every time”
