Bruce Cassidy met with the media this morning for his general media availability. He provided an update on several key Bruins players, including Brandon Carlo, Kevan Miller, Curtis Lazar, and Tuukka Rask. Between the banged-up d-core, the mix-up of the bottom six, and the nagging injury to Tuukka Rask, the Bruins are heading into a challenging game six. In short, the update is not going to be what Bruins fans want to hear heading into game six.
Brandon Carlo and Kevan Miller Both Out
According to Connor Ryan on Twitter, Brandon Carlo and Kevan Miller will stay in Boston and be unavailable for game six.
Miller has not played a game at all in this series, and while he continues to be skating, it does not appear he’s made the needed progress in his recovery to be back in the lineup. Carlo has not played in a game since game three when he hit his head against the boards. While the Bruins have not confirmed the actual injury, other than to say it is upper body, the road back for Carlo could be a long one if it is a concussion. Either way, missing both of these guys has proven to be a significant gap in the Bruins d-core, and going into an elimination game will undoubtedly be an uphill battle.
Curtis Lazar Out
According to Cassidy, Curtis Lazar will also not travel with the team for game six with a lower-body injury.
Lazar appeared to sustain his injury on a good clean hit between him and Adam Pelech. Cassidy said, “He’ll be unavailable. He’s not going to travel with us,” Cassidy said. “We’ll list him as day-to-day with a lower body. He went awkward into the boards. Good hit. Him and (Adam) Pelech both got tangled up. Unfortunately for Curtis came out on the wrong side of it. We’ll have to look at our lineup.” With Lazar unavailable for game six, the revolving door of the bottom six will continue to spin.
Tuukka Rask Questionable
This injury might be the most concerning one of the presser. According to Bruce Cassidy, Tuukka Rask is questionable for game six with a lingering issue that saw him sit for the final period of game five. “Tuukka was here this morning going over stuff with Bob (Essensa). No one went on the ice other than taxi squad players,” Bruce Cassidy said. “He’ll get his treatment. We’ll find out tomorrow whether he’s able to go or not.” While many out there might be excited to see Swayman again, missing your elite goaltender who has been breaking records is never good news.
