As first reported by BNG’s own, Mark Allred yesterday, Jay Leach is moving on from his head coaching position with the Providence Bruins to be the first-ever Assistant coach for the newly formed Seattle Kraken.

Leach spent three years between 2004-2007 with the Bruins organization as a left-shot Defenseman but only played two games with the big club and spent the rest of his time in Providence. With his time in Providence, Leach scored 11 goals and 21 assists for a total of 32 points. In addition to his time as a player with the Bruins, Leach spent time with the Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens, and San Jose Sharks.

In addition to his playing career, Leach spent some time with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins as an assistant coach. On August 4th, 2016, Jay Leach joined the Providence Bruins as an assistant coach. He was promoted to the P-Bruins head coach position before the 2017-2018 season. Leach has had a highly regarded career in the AHL but is now taking the official next step in his coaching career by moving on to be an assistant of the Seatle Kraken as an assistant coach in the NHL.

In addition to the interest from the Seattle Kraken, Leach was a favorite to land an assistant job with the Pittsburgh Penguins and was in the running for the head coaching position in Arizona. With Leach taking the Seattle Kraken position, it likely will not be long until other jobs around the league start to fall into place.
