A time-honored tradition for the Boston Bruins will soon see a host of new honorees for the 2021-2022 season. The B’s are bringing back the ever-popular 8-Spoked Salute program highlighting “soldiers of our community” for their service.

It’s one of those occasions where sport and sacrifice intertwine to form a bond that is honored by all — no matter your politics, passions or pursuits. And, in the case of the Bruins, that intertwining involves 8 spokes, bringing even more value, sentiment and meaning to the beloved and bespoked B’s!

According to an official announcement between the team and its community partner, The Mass Lottery, on this salute-worthy initiative, the 8-Spoked Salute is described as follows:

“The Bruins and the Massachusetts State Lottery are proud to salute the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. After each home game of the 2021/22 season, a member of the Armed Forces [Active Duty, Guard or Reserve] will receive the 8-Spoked Salute for their service to our country. Selected winners will receive a shout-out on the Bruins official Twitter & Facebook channels and 4 Loge tickets to Bruin’s game.

If you would like to nominate a Service Member of the Community, fill out the form below. Entries for selection must include a valid reason as to why an individual should be selected for this honor and a high-resolution image of the nominee to be shared on the Bruins social media channels.

By filling out the entry form, you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to the Official Rules. Last year, the Lottery gave back over $986 million to the Commonwealth, providing essential local aid for all 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts.”

The announcement adds the following instructions on submitting entries so that YOU can nominate someone in the Boston / New England community for the 8-Spoked Salute: “In 500 words or less, tell us why you or your nominee should be selected for this honor. Please indicate if the nominee is active or retired, and list any awards the nominee has received as part of their military service.”

You then have the option to upload three photos best showcasing that nominee’s commitment to service and community, as seen in the many dedicated Twitter posts shared between the official @NHLBruins and @MAStateLottery accounts.

As you can imagine, many family and friends also love sharing in this honor if their loved one is selected to receive an 8-Spoked Salute. YouTube has a plethora of clips showcasing just how wonderful the moment can be for everyone in attendance at TD Garden — especially the service member being featured front and center!

To see the next soldier given the 8-Spoked Salute by the Boston Bruins and Massachusetts State Lottery, be on the lookout after every home game for the remainder of the 2021-2022 NHL season.
