Mishandling of the puck and lack of quality shooting gave the Bruins their first loss on home ice as they lose to the Oilers 5-3. Boston went 0-3 on the power play and are 6-5 while Edmonton is now 10-2.

Game Recap

Prior to puck drop, the team had a loving tribute to former Bruins and Oiler Colby Cave who sadly passed away last April from a brain bleed. David Pastrnak opened up the scoring early in the period as he shot one in past Mikko Koskinen. Patrice Bergeron nabbed his fifth assist of the season on that goal. Unfortunately, the lead was short-lived as Evan Bouchard wristed the puck past Linus Ullmark tying the game at 1-1.

Connor Clifton saw time in the penalty box as he was called for a delay-of-game. Luckily Edmonton was unable to take advantage. Lots of action up and down the ice as the Bruins spent a good amount of time down in the Oiler’s end. Ullmark made stellar saves that kept the Bruins from falling behind. In the last two minutes of the period, Boston drew their second penalty of the night but were unable to score. No time was wasted as the Bruins were relentless in their shooting in the last few minutes of the period.

SCORE END OF FIRST: BOS-1, EDM-1

SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-9, EDM-10

Ullmark continued to make some timely saves against a surging Oiler’s team as he stopped a Connor McDavid shot point-blank. The Bruins briefly held the lead as Brad Marchand scored his sixth goal of the season. Twenty-four seconds later Zach Hyman tied the game at 2-2 as he backhanded the puck past Ullmark.

A tripping call against the Oiler’s Slater Koekkoek gave the Bruins their third power play of the night. There were some close calls however Boston was unable to take the lead with one shot on goal during the man-advantage. Edmonton was thisclose to taking the lead as McDavid pinged one off the post. With time ticking away, Brandon Carlo slapped one in past Koskinen giving Boston the lead 3-2.

Lots of falling bodies on the ice as the Bruins kept Edmonton from tying the game. Both teams did not let off the gas as they geared up for the third period.

SCORE END OF THE SECOND: BOS-3, EDM-2

SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-11, EDM-7

Boston had a hard time clearing their zone in the opening moments of the third period. Marchand saw time in the penalty box as he was called for holding against Darrell Nurse. Edmonton swarmed the Bruins net but were unable to tie the game during their power play.

An unfortunate mishandling of the puck by Brandon Carlo led to Leon Draistl tying the game at 3-3. Momentum shifted quickly as the Oilers gained the lead for the first time tonight as Draisaitl (once again) scored his second goal of the night, making it 4-3.

Both teams had near misses as the Bruins needed to tie the game. With two minutes left the Oilers took advantage of Boston’s defensive breakdowns to make it 5-3. The Bruins were unable to muster any more plays and lose for the first on home ice.

FINAL SCORE: BOS-3, EDM-5

TOTAL SHOTS ON GOAL: BOS-29, EDM-28
