With Friday fast approaching and the Providence Bruins set to face off against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this weekend, all signs point to Tuukka Rask starting in nets for the Providence Bruins this weekend. According to the Boston Bruins Twitter account this morning, Tuukka Rask has signed a PTO with the Providence organization in preparation for his re-signing with the big club.
This news comes with much joy for many Bruins fans. With a career record of 306-163-66, Rask has arguably been the best goaltender in Bruins franchise history. His career 2.27 goals-against-average and .921 save percentage put him in an elite category with not many other names. This stint in Providence will be just the next step in Rask’s journey back to the NHL after recovering from a torn labrum in his him. This type of injury can often be debilitating to even the ordinary person, but the good news for Bruins fans is Tuukka Rask is anything but ordinary.
Set to practice with the Providence squad ahead of the weekend, Rask will likely get the call in at least one if not more of the games against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The Providence Bruins are currently fourth in the Atlantic Division with a record of 13-9-4; however, goaltending has not been Providence’s most significant issue with a division’s best 68 goals allowed. That said, this weekend, it’s likely the goaltending tandem in Providence gets a break while Tuukka Rask gets his reps in.
Every Bruins fan should be extremely excited; I know I am!
