This afternoon the National Hockey League Boston Bruins announced that the organization signed goaltender Brandon Bussi to a one-year, entry-level contract that goes in effect for the 2022/23 season. Bussi, a 23-year-old New York native, will join the American Hockey League Providence Bruins for the remainder of the year on an Amateur Try-Out Agreement. The top minor-pro affiliate of the NHL Bruins has 15 games remaining in the 2021/22 regular season.
The 6′-5″ 209-pound netminder spent the last three seasons at Western Michigan University, where Bussi compiled an NCAA career record of 46-25-5 with a 2.68 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in 77 games. Before Brandon’s collegiate career with the Broncos, he played one season of Tier-1 junior hockey in the United States Hockey League with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. With Muskegon, he posted a record of 33-12-4 with a 2.44 GAA and .915 Save% in 52 games played.
This addition to the goaltending depth is seemingly an insurance policy for the Boston Bruins. With netminders Callum Booth and Troy Grosenick being unrestricted free agents, it’s a good idea to get someone in the fold as Booth and Grosenick might not be returning. Keyser, on the other hand, is currently in the last season of his three-year entry-level and is a restricted free agent at the end of the season and could be retained for further development.
