The Red Sox haven’t even played their 2022 home-opener at Fenway Park yet but already the Bruins are the talk of the town in Boston when it comes to sports’ greatest cathedral for 2023.

According to multiple reports and at least one NHL source, the B’s and Pens will face off at Fenway for next year’s Winter Classic.

Neither the Bruins or Penguins are strangers to the annual “New Year’s” outdoor game — the B’s having played three times before (including a thrilling 2-1 OT Win at Fenway against the Flyers back in 2010) and Pittsburgh twice. Both teams have enjoyed playing outdoors at the Stadium Series and Lake Tahoe Games respectively, as well.

There had been “heavy speculation” that Pittsburgh and Boston could share a future NHL Winter Classic ever since the Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Red Sox and Fenway Park, purchased the Pens in back in 2021.

Well, it appears now that the date and match-up is “reportedly” set for January 2023. But, when you go to Mark Your Bruins Calendar (as our seminal BN’G series likes to remind you), make sure it’s highlighted for January 2nd and not the 1st.

This year, January 1st falls on a Sunday so the official New Year’s Day holiday will be observed on Monday January 2nd (one day later compared to previous Winter Classic years).

Here’s a look back over the years at the B’s “Road to the Winter Classic” to get you excited for the ’23 outdoor edition… hopefully featuring the likes of previous puck pond stars like Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak!
