The Boston Bruins have officially ruled out Hampus Lindholm for game three against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday at 7:00 PM. On Wednesday’s game two in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Boston defenseman has an upper-body injury from a violent yet legal check from Hurricane’s forward Andrei Svechnikov.
Lindholm sustained the injury in the final minutes of the second period after he received a pass from his defense partner Brandon Carlo behind the Bruins net. After collecting the D-to-D pass, Lindholm looked to skate the puck up the ice but was met by a green light hit from Svechnikov. After receiving the hit, Lindholm was unable to get on his own feet and needed medical attention on the ice. Lindholm eventually was assisted off the ice by medical staff along with fellow teammates.

Following the Bruins’ 5-2 loss to Carolina in game 2, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy stated that Lindholm was “not doing well.” Fortunately, Lindholm was able to make the trip to Boston after some uncertainty that Lindholm wouldn’t be able to fly back with the team.
With Lindholm out, Cassidy will decide ahead of game three who will slot on the left side of the Bruins’ defense. Cassidy discussed the option of slotting Mike Reilly back into the lineup. While Reilly has had an up-and-down season for Boston, he’s a strong skater and has a good transition game that could assist Boston against the heavy forecheck of Carolina.
This weekend, the Bruins play the Hurricanes in games three and four back home in Boston, with game three on Friday night and game four on Sunday (Mothers Day) at 12:30 PM.
