“Boston joining as one.”

When it comes to raising awareness, fighting cancer and giving back to the local community, Boston teams love joining together as a family.

And the Bruins, right beside the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots, showed that patriotic and familial spirit by being a part of the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon to “K Cancer” along with NESN and WEEI — the team’s broadcast partners.

Partnership is the perfect word to describe this heart-warming and life-saving annual initiative. This year, new B’s bench boss Jim Montgomery shared in the fundraising fun along with goaltender Jeremy Swayman and defenseman Matt Grzelcyk.

“To be a part of a big fund that’s given so much back to so many families that have had to fight cancer… you know, everyone has a story… and this touches everybody,” Montgomery shared with B’s reporter Eric Russo outside Fenway Park — a place the B’s will be back to for the Winter Classic this new year!

A touching moment indeed as many of those families and kids were on hand to meet and greet the Bruins players and their favorite Boston stars while thanking the Jimmy Fund for not only the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but the opportunity to live their life.

“I think we found our new best friend,” Swayman tweeted after meeting a young Jimmy Fund patient during the radio-telethon, an experience he called one of the best of his life while being interviewed on the anchor desk helping to raise funds to #KCancer.

One of the goals each year of the radio-telethon is to receive donations from every state in America. And Swayman helped share the honor of his home state, Alaska, calling in a win to smiles, cheers and applause from everyone watching and listening.

Those tuning in for Grzelcyk’s segment on NESN admired his story about his father becoming cancer free, a goal for everyone involved with the Jimmy Fund!

“Yeah, he’s a warrior. I wanted to be there for him but he actually walked straight to work. He wouldn’t let us give him a ride… that’s just the kind of guy he is,” the affable D-man shared with a grin.

You still have time to share a donation that supports the Jimmy Fund’s mission to prevent, treat, and defy cancer for patients in Boston and around the world. “Together, we’re all Jimmy, and we can strike out cancer,” the official website in partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute highlighted!

A highlight for coach Monty? “You feel real fortunate right away just to be able to help in some form,” he added. The Bruins Foundation, represented by its President and B’s alum Bob Sweeney, also helped in that spirit with a fortunate donation to the worthwhile cause.

A cause that continues to make a difference in and around Greater Boston for fans and families of every team, but especially the Boston Bruins.

“Just like Bergy and Krecji coming back… this [telethon] will definitely put a smile on everyone’s face for sure,” noted Grzelcyk.

Boston joining as one, indeed!
