Week three of the AHL season is here, and the Providence Bruins skate into it 3-1-1 (7 points). That is good for fourth in the Atlantic Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference. Our boys in black and gold are coming off a week that saw them fall to Bridgeport 5-4 in overtime and defeat Utica 2-1 before falling to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2-1. The Bruins have three big games this week you do not want to miss.

The hockey action starts on Friday, October 28, 2022, when the Charlotte Checkers travel to Providence, Rhode Island, to take on the Providence Bruins at the Dunk. The weekend continues Saturday, October 29, 2022, when the Providence Bruins travel to Springfield, Massachusetts, to take on the Thunderbirds at the MassMutual Center. The weekend wraps on Sunday, October 30, 2022, when the Springfield Thunderbirds travel to Rhode Island to take on the Bruins at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Do not miss the action.

Friday, October 28, 2022, Providence Bruins vs. Charlotte Checkers (HOME)

The Friday game will mark the first of eight that Providence and Charlotte will have this season. The Checkers skate into it 4-0 (8 points). That is good for first in the Atlantic Division and first in the Eastern Conference. Our boys in black and gold were 2-1-0-3 against the Florida affiliate in 2021-2022. Over the past five seasons, the Bruins have a 10-8-1-3 record. The Checkers have started the year playing both great offense and great defense. They are scoring 3.75 goals a game while only giving up 2.5.

Saturday, October 29, 2022 (AWAY) and Sunday, October 30, 2022 (HOME), Providence Bruins vs. Springfield Thunderbirds

The weekend series marks the second and third games of 12 that the two teams will have this season. The first battle saw the Bruins win 4-3. Georgii Merkulov, Josiah Didier, Vinni Lettieri, and Luke Toporowski scored for Providence.

The Springfield Thunderbirds skate into the matchup 2-3 (4 points). That is good for seventh in the Atlantic Division and 12th in the Eastern Conference. The St. Louis affiliate went to the Calder Cup Finals in 2021-2022, losing to the Chicago Wolves. The Providence Bruins had a 5-5-1 record against Springfield last season. Over the past five years, they have a 21-13-4-1 record, including 12-6-1-1 at Springfield. These rivalry games are usually chippy affairs. Expect a physical game between two teams who dislike each other.

My Players To Watch This Weekend

Up Front

Fabian Lysell has been one of the Bruins’ best players this season. A player of his talent level rarely plays in the AHL. In three games, he’s netted one goal while dishing out five assists for six total points. The native of Sweden has been tearing it up. Enjoy watching him in Providence while you can; he likely won’t be there long.

On The Blue Line

Connor Carrick is a name you probably recognize. The veteran defenseman spent part of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In four games, he’s dished out two assists for two total points. He’s also played excellent defense. Carrick is a hard-hitting player who plays well defensively.

In Net

Kyle Keyser has had an excellent start to his season. In two games, he’s 2-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage. Keyser playing well is encouraging after an up-and-down 2021-2022.

I hope everyone enjoys the three games this weekend. The Providence Bruins have had a great start to their season. Feel free to send me any comments or questions on Twitter. As always, GO, Bs, GO!
