The wait is finally over. In light of the Boston Bruins hitting the ice on Tuesday for their 2024-25 season opener, the Bruins officially announced their opening day roster. Bruins fans will surely be happy that Jeremy Swayman’s name is on it.
The Bruins have 13 rostered forwards, including Johnny Beecher, Justin Brazeau, Charlie Coyle, Trent Frederic, Morgan Geekie, Max Jones, Mark Kastelic, Cole Koepke, Elias Lindholm, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, Riley Tufte, and Pavel Zacha.
The one surprise here is the absence of Matt Poitras, who has been designated as an “injured non-roster” skater along with Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula. It is unclear what exactly Poitras is dealing with, as he was seen skating in Florida this morning in a non-contact sweater. Jim Montgomery told reporters in Florida that he was “day to day” and ruled out the possibility of him playing in the season opener. Poitras underwent shoulder surgery last February that sidelined him for the remainder of his rookie season.
On the blue line, the Bruins are rolling with Brandon Carlo, Hampus Lindholm, Mason Lohrei, Charlie McAvoy, Andrew Peeke, Parker Wotherspoon, and Nikita Zadorov.
As highlighted all summer, the Bruins went big this offseason—literally. Their smallest defenseman, Charlie McAvoy, is 6-foot-1. Boston will surely be looking for their offseason free agency pickup in Zadorov to make a sizeable impact for the club this season. He posted 6-14-20 in 2023-24 between the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames.
And in goal, the Bruins will feature newly-signed Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo, who was obtained by Boston in the Linus Ullmark swap. While Don Sweeney confirmed to reporters on Sunday that Korpisalo would start the season opener, Montgomery left the door open for Swayman to potentially get the net against the Panthers. Swayman put pen to paper on an eight-year, $8.25 million contract just yesterday.
