The Boston Bruins have signed forward Tyler Johnson to a one-year contract with a cap hit of $750,000, General Manager Don Sweeney announced on Monday. The 34-year-old Johnson signed a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO) on August 31st with the Bruins and appeared in three preseason games for the team. As a member of the Chicago Blackhawks last season, he notched 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points in 67 games.
Johnson has appeared in 738 career NHL games across 12 years. The Spokane, Washington, native spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Lightning before being dealt to Chicago on July 21st, 2021. In 149 games with the Blackhawks before signing with the Bruins, the 5ā8ā forward recorded 70 points.
After going undrafted, Johnson signed his Entry-Level Contract (ELC) with the Lightning in 2011. In 589 games with the Lightning, Johnson recorded 161 goals and 200 assists for 361 points. He has recorded two seasons with over 25 goals, accomplishing this in 2014-15 and 2018-19, potting 29 goals in both seasons.
Johnson is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion, winning in 2019-20 and 2020-21 with Tampa Bay. In 116 career postseason games, all coming with the Lightning, Johnson has 32 goals and 33 assists. In the 2014-15 NHL Playoffs, Johnson recorded 23 points in 26 games as the Lightning lost to the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals. His 23 points tied him for the most in the playoffs with Patrick Kane.
