Per RinksideRhodeIsland.com and NHL.com hockey scribe Mark Divver and the American Hockey League’s official website transaction page, the Providence Bruins have recalled defenseman Mason Millman from the ECHL Maine Mariners. The National Hockey League Boston Bruins made several transactions this morning before the puck dropped at TD Garden this afternoon for a match against the visiting St. Louis Blues.
Millman, a 23-year-old London, Ontario, Canada native, has appeared in ten games for the NHL Bruins’ “AA” minor-pro affiliate and produced 2-4-6 numbers in that timeframe. Mason is a 6′-1″, 174-pound versatile player with experience on the backend and up front offensively. Millman was a former fourth-round selection in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and has spent the last several seasons in the Philadelphia Flyers minor-pro system, making stops with the AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms and lower ECHL Reading Royals.
The Providence Bruins are on the road in Hartford, Connecticut, tonight to face the Hartford Wolf Pack at the XL Center for game two of this three-game weekend. The last time these two Atlantic Division teams faced each other was on Sunday afternoon at the Amica Mutual Pavilion, where the home AHL Bruins beat the New York Rangers affiliate 4-2 in regulation.
With Boston Bruins prospect forward Georgii Merkulov and veteran forward Riley Tufte heading to TD Garden to join the matinee festivities in Boston, the Millman recall is a sneakingly good move for the Providence club. It will be interesting to see where Providence Head Coach Ryan Mougenel fits Millman into the lineup, either tonight or tomorrow afternoon at the AMP, for help on the blueline or to fill a need offensively.
