Today, the Boston Bruins announced that they have recalled goaltender Michael DiPietro from the Providence Bruins. DiPietro has had an impressive season, ranking second statistically in the American Hockey League. Earlier this month, he was selected to the AHL Atlantic Division All-Star team. Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney acquired DiPietro in a trade involving first-round pick Jack Studnicka and has decided to give the veteran netminder a chance. This decision was made after Jeremy Swayman, who was in the net during last night’s game against the New Jersey Devils, was pulled from the game during the second intermission due to injury issues.
The Ontario native has made a significant leap from the East Coast Hockey League to the American Hockey League. Now, he’s ready to showcase his talent in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins. His stats this season are truly impressive, with 14 wins, five losses, four overtime losses, a 1.95 goals-against average, and a .930 save percentage. In his most recent game, the 6-foot-1 goaltender achieved a shutout against the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday. These stats are a testament to his potential and are sure to excite Bruins fans.
Michael DiPietro has been the Providence Bruins’ Most Valuable Player this season. Although the team’s performance has varied throughout the year, DiPietro’s play has remained consistently strong. Fans were initially concerned about his shorter stature, but when watching him on the ice, it’s hard to notice that he is undersized for a goaltender. The duration of his time in the NHL remains uncertain, especially due to the lack of updates regarding Swayman’s injury.
