The Boston Bruins announced two roster transactions this morning ahead of tonight’s original six matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks at TD Garden. Boston recalled forward Riley Duran from Providence and also assigned Patrick Brown to the American Hockey League.
A native of Woburn, Massachusetts, Duran is in his first full season as a pro and has 16 points in 58 games with the Providence Bruins this year. He played three seasons with the Providence College Friars, where he had 55 points in 102 games. Duran also represented the United States at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship. Selected in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by Boston, if Duran suits up for the B’s tonight, he would be the second player to play in the NHL from that Bruins draft class, joining Mason Lohrei.
Duran joins a group of young forwards including Fraser Minten and Fabian Lysell, that have gotten NHL opportunities in the past few weeks. While the Bruins have already been eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention, this experience could prove to be beneficial for these players during a potential Calder Cup Playoff run with Providence.
Another key part of that potential run will be team captain Patrick Brown, who returns to Providence having posted one assist in 15 games with Boston. In 52 AHL games this season, the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, native has 44 points. The P-Bruins will be back in action tomorrow when they visit the Hartford Wolf Pack.
