The American Hockey League Providence Bruins are in the final stretch of the 2024-25 regular season, and they could be without the team’s leading scorer until the postseason. Per New England Hockey Journal writer and NHL.com contributor Mark Divver, the Boston Bruins’ minor pro affiliate could be without the services of forward Georgii Merkulov for the season’s final four games.
The 24-year-old undrafted center/left wing last saw action in Friday night’s game at the Amica Mutual Pavilion when the Providence Bruins beat the visiting Charlotte Checkers 4-0. The former Ohio State Buckeye’s forward left the game in the third period after this open ice hit given by the Checkers player.
Merkulov has appeared in 59 games this season, where he posted 15-39-54 numbers and was close to being a point-per-game player for the last two of three AHL seasons. The 5′-11″, 185-pound Russian native has played three full seasons and has contributed 70-109-179 numbers in 201 career AHL games.
The Providence Bruins are back in action with two games this coming weekend, beginning this Friday night, as the Bs go on the road in Hartford, Connecticut, for an Atlantic Division battle against rival Hartford Wolf Pack. The final game of the weekend is the following day on Saturday night at the AMP as the North Division Belleville Senators come to the downtown Providence, Rhode Island venue. Both games can be seen by getting a streaming package to FloHockey.
