The Boston Bruins have signed goaltender Simon Zajicek to a one-year, entry-level contract, the team’s General Manager Don Sweeney announced today. Zajicek, 23, spent the 2024-25 season playing in his native Czechia with HC Litvinov of the Czech Extraliga. He appeared in 29 games and recorded a 15-13-0 record with a 2.12 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.

Last season, Zajicek led all goaltenders in the Czech Extraliga in save percentage and was tied for second with five shutouts. The Frydlant, Czechia native appeared in three playoff games for HC Litvinov, posting a 2.63 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. The team recorded a 25-23-1 record and was eliminated in the postseason in four games by HC Ocelari Trenic. In his career with HC Litvinov, Zajicek has a 36-48-0 record, a 2.68 GAA, and a .912 save percentage in 90 games over parts of six seasons.

Zajicek’s signing in Boston comes with the team having only two netminders under contract for the 2025-26 season. At 23 years of age, Zajicek will likely begin his career in North America in the AHL, which coincides with the Providence Bruins’ goalies, Michael DiPietro and Brandon Bussi, having expiring deals.

The team’s press release stated that Zajicek’s contract will be valued at $872,500 for this one season. At an entry-level contract, this gives both the team and player flexibility. It allows for financial flexibility from a team perspective and can provide the NHL club with a goaltender with waiver control to recall if needed.
