On Tuesday, the Maine Mariners announced that Terrence Wallin has accepted a position as the assistant coach of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Wallin started his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Mariners in the 2021-22 season. He became the Mariners’ head coach starting in the 2022-23 season and assumed the general manager role the following season. He spent the last two seasons as the Mariners’ general manager and head coach.
Over three seasons as the head coach, Wallin compiled a record of 107-94-14-1. The Mariners qualified twice for the playoffs, losing in the first round both times. The Mariners also achieved their best season in franchise history under Wallin, finishing with a 42-27-2-1 record in the 2022-23 season.
Terrence Wallin played for the Maine Mariners and was involved in the franchise’s first-ever trade. He played 97 games for the Mariners and scored 73 points across two seasons. He played college hockey at UMass Lowell. With this move, the 33-year-old will return closer to home. Wallin was born in Yardley, PA, roughly 90 minutes away from Allentown, PA, where the Phantoms call home.
The Mariners will immediately start the search for the next head coach and general manager. The Mariners’ 2025-26 season starts on Saturday, October 18, with an away game in Worcester.
