The Boston Bruins have announced they have signed defenseman Jonathan Aspirot to a two-year, $887,500 contract extension running through the 2027-28 season. Aspirot, 26, has been a welcome addition to the Bruins blueline after earning himself a call-up from the Providence Bruins earlier in the season.
The Mascouche, Quebec native made his National Hockey League debut when he earned that call-up to Boston, having been an American Hockey League journeyman before making a real impact for the Bruins injury-battered blueline. Going down for a brief injury, he’s come back not missing a beat and has been playing on the first pairing with Charlie McAvoy, and the two have complimented each other nicely.
Through 25 games played with the Boston Bruins so far this season, Aspirot has averaged 16:24 time-on-ice, recorded 2-1-3, and has a team-leading plus/minus of +15. He’s not the type of defenseman that’s going to score 50 points a season, but he’ll play smart defense and will jump into the offense when the opportunity is there, but he won’t force it.
