Morgan Geekie has had his stretches of goal-scoring droughts this season. His most recent stretch, however, came at arguably the worst point of the season — right in the midst of the Bruins’ final push for a playoff spot.
Geekie, who set career-highs in both 2024-25 and 2025-26 for goals, assists, and points, went 17 games without scoring a goal. Having last scored on March 5th — before a hat trick against his former club, the Carolina Hurricanes, snapped his drought, on April 7th.
Over a month between goals, and during that stretch, the Bruins needed all the offense they could get, but they weren’t getting it from Geekie. This trend, unfortunately, hasn’t been all that uncommon for Geekie, as earlier this season, he experienced a 12-game goal drought, before inevitably snapping it and going on to score seven goals in his next seven games.
Even with all of the goal-less games, Geekie still leads the Bruins in goals, with the next closest goal-scorer coming in Pavel Zacha — who has scored 30 goals for the first time in his career.
However, Geekie’s drought was charting towards dangerous territory considering the Bruins’ position and their push for a return to the postseason, and if he goes into the playoffs cold, it’s bad news for Boston, which is why snapping his drought when he did is a huge boost for both him and his teammates.
Confidence is a huge part of Geekie’s success. When he’s feeling it, he’s feeling it. Without confidence, Geekie is a shell of the player he’s capable of being, and it was evident during that 17-game stretch. Despite registering points (0-7-7) during his 17-game goal-less streak, Geekie didn’t look himself, often times looking almost lost out on the ice.
Since finding his groove again, Geekie looks like the 38-goal scorer everyone knows him to be, and among those people is head coach Marco Sturm. “He’s feeling it again,” Sturm said. “He doesn’t think, he just shoots, and it goes in the net. So it’s nice to see him back, you know, smiling and being confident like he is all year.”
Geekie’s game against Carolina wasn’t the only time the return of his confidence was on full display, either, as he scored the Bruins’ lone goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning in their 2-1 defeat. And while it wasn’t a hat trick, his confidence was certainly showing.
Now, the Bruins have officially punched their ticket to the postseason. With their opponents being one of the Buffalo Sabres or Carolina Hurricanes, having Morgan Geekie be in his true, full-confidence form is crucial. Ironically enough, the most goals Geekie has scored against one team is the Sabres (7 goals), and in a close-second, the Hurricanes (6 goals).
Four goals in his last three games, Morgan Geekie is back to his true-form. Playing with confidence is such a massive component of Geekie’s game, when he’s in those scoring slumps that he experiences, it takes a major toll. With the postseason just around the corner, there’s no better time for Geekie to snap out of it and regain his confidence.
