The Providence Bruins have announced the signing of defenseman Will Gilson to an amateur tryout agreement (ATO), bringing additional depth to their blue line as the American Hockey League (AHL) regular season winds down. Gibson, a former standout with the Boston Jr. Bruins and a recent graduate of Quinnipiac University, joins Providence with six games left in the 2025-26 AHL regular season.
Gilson’s arrival comes at a crucial time for the Bruins, who are preparing for a playoff run and looking to bolster their defensive corps. The addition is viewed as a depth move, providing the team with more options as they navigate the final stretch of the season and gear up for the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Under the terms of his ATO, Gilson is eligible to participate in the upcoming Calder Cup Playoffs. This eligibility is especially important as the Bruins look to solidify their roster ahead of postseason play and ensure they have ample coverage in the event of injuries or other roster changes.
Gilson, who played his junior hockey with the Boston Jr. Bruins and New Jersey Rockets in the NCDC before an increased workload in the higher NAHL with the Aberdeen Wings, where he posted 10-24-34 numbers in 58 games. Gilson had a successful collegiate career, making stops at the University of Anchorage for two years, later transferring to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for one season, and finishing up at Quinnipiac for his final NCAA season. He is known for his steady presence on the blue line and ability to contribute at both ends of the ice. His signing is expected to give Providence added flexibility and depth as they seek postseason success.
The Providence Bruins are back in action tonight on the road in Rochester, New York, to face the Americans. Puck drop from the Blue Cross Arena is set for 5:05pm, and with a victory in regulation over the host Americans, the top minor-pro affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins will clinch the Atlantic Division title and secure a first-round bye in the upcoming 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs.
