James Hagens’ rookie season isn’t over yet. As initially reported by Mark Divver on Twitter/X, and later confirmed by Bruins head coach Marco Sturm at the team’s end-of-season press conference, the 19-year-old forward will join Team USA for the upcoming IIHF World Championships in Switzerland.
Hagens signed with the Bruins following his sophomore year at Boston College, where he recorded 23-24-47 in 34 games. His decorated campaign included a Beanpot title, First Team Hockey East and All-American honors, and a Top 10 finish in Hobey Baker voting. He skated in six games with Providence before signing his entry-level contract with Boston, appearing in two regular-season and three Stanley Cup playoff games.
The World Championships will mark the third time in less than 18 months that Hagens has represented the United States in an international tournament. Hagens competed in both the 2025 and 2026 World Junior Championships with Team USA, recording 7-9-16 in 12 games, winning a gold medal in 2025, and serving as an alternate captain in 2026.
The rest of the Team USA roster has not yet been announced. The tournament will begin on May 15th, with the Americans beginning their gold medal defense against the hosts in Zurich.
