Two Boston Bruins will be reprising their roles on the international stage less than three months after winning bronze medals in Milan. Henri Jokiharju and Joonas Korpisalo were both named to Finland’s final roster for the IIHF World Championship on Tuesday morning, each making their second appearance in the tournament.
Korpisalo is coming off his second season with the Bruins, posting a 14-9-6 record with a .894 save percentage, 3.15 Goals Against Average, and one shutout. He did not make an appearance for the Finns in the Olympics, filling in for an injured Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen as the third goaltender behind Juuse Saros and Kevin Lankinen. He had previously backstopped Finland to a fourth-place finish at the 2017 World Championship.
After arriving at the trade deadline the season prior, Jokiharju finished his first full year in Boston with 2-13-15 in 41 games, a five-point improvement from the prior season. He logged an assist in six games for Finland at the Olympics and was a +2 in the bronze-medal game against Slovakia. He also represented Finland in the Four Nations Face Off the year prior, scoring against Team USA.
Jokiharju owns three gold medals on the international stage, winning the U18 World Championships in 2016, and the latter two coming in 2019 as part of Finland’s World Junior Championship and World Championship double over the United States and Canada. He recorded eight points across 17 combined games of the Finns’ triumphs, including an assist on the Juniors’ gold-medal-winning goal against Team USA.
Finland will begin their 2026 World Championship campaign on May 15th against Germany in Zurich. Their second matchup, against Team USA on the 18th, will be one for Bruins fans to watch with the Finnish duo facing off against Boston teammates James Hagens, Mason Lohrei, and Alex Steeves.
